The prosecutor, who gave his opinion in the case in which Furkan Durmaz (22), who killed one of the two brothers and injured the other in Erzurum due to the issue of ‘dumping animal manure’, was tried in detention, sentenced the defendant to life imprisonment for ‘deliberate murder’ and to 20 years for ‘attempted intentional murder’. He asked for a prison sentence of up to.

The prosecutor asked for life imprisonment for the defendant in the fertilizer fight in which one of the two brothers died and the other was injured.
The incident took place on June 17, 2022 at 20:00 in the rural Beypınarı District of Aziziye district. An argument broke out when Turan Durmaz (56) said to his neighbor Necati Bedir (54), who was passing over the fertilizers he dumped on the land next to his house with his tractor, ‘You can’t pour it here’. Turan Durmaz beat Necati Bedir with his son Furkan. Necati Bedir, who left the scene, returned with a shovel and his brother Mehmet Bedir (50) returned with a stick in his hand. Thereupon, Furkan Durmaz went to their home and came to the scene with a knife in his hand. Furkan Durmaz, who survived Necati Bedir’s shovel blow during the fight between the parties, waved his knife many times. Necati Bedir, who was hit by a knife, one to his heart and the other to various parts of his body, fell to the ground. Furkan Durmaz, who stabbed Mehmet Bedir under his arm, ran away. While Necati Bedir died at the scene, Mehmet Bedir was taken to Atatürk University Research Hospital by the surrounding people. Turan and Furkan Durmaz, who escaped after the incident, went to the gendarmerie after a while and surrendered.

The detained defendant Furkan Durmaz attended the hearing of the case held yesterday at Erzurum 1st High Criminal Court via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS) from E Type Closed Penal Institution. At the hearing, the prosecutor explained his opinion. The prosecutor requested that the defendant Furkan Durmaz be sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime of ‘deliberate murder’ for his action against the victim Necati Bedir, and to be sentenced to 13 to 20 years in prison for the crime of ‘deliberate attempt to murder’ against Mehmet Bedir. The prosecutor requested that the defendant Furkan Durmaz’s detention be continued.

I DID NOT DO IT WITH THE INTENTION TO KILL

In his defense at the hearing, Furkan Durmaz stated that they had been having problems with the Bedir family for 5 years and that they were disturbing them by pouring animal feces at the bottom of their house. Furkan Durmaz, who claimed that Necati Bedir and his father had an argument in front of the mosque at noon on the day of the incident, reported that the argument continued at around 19.30 on the same day. Explaining that the Bedir family made threats and insults towards them, Durmaz said, “Mehmet and Necati Bedir laid my father on the ground and beat him with a stick and a shovel. When I saw this situation, I had a nervous breakdown. I put the knife we used to cut the sack in front of the door, into my arm, and tried to separate it. Meanwhile, I went to my father and tried to separate him. Necati Bedir hit me with a shovel and Mehmet with a stick. Then I swung the knife in my hand. Since I was hit in the head, I swung the knife with my head down. Also, Necati, I did not do it with the intention of killing. He continued swearing, saying, “Kill them, don’t let them live.” They injured my arm with a shovel and a knife. I saw that my arm was injured, but I did not see who had the knife. There are also traces of blood on the shovel and stick seized at the scene. “I did it under the sun, I regret it,” he said.

HE REQUESTED HIS RELEASE

Furkan Durmaz also stated that he did not accept the negative points in the prosecutor’s opinion and said, “I have been detained for a long time. My family and I are victims both materially and morally. I trust the justice of my state. I request that my release be decided by applying one or more judicial control measures.”

The court decided to continue the detention of the defendant Furkan Durmaz. (DHA)
