Breeder fish were milked in Adana

The first step of the new fish farming season was taken at the Aquaculture Production Station affiliated with Adana Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. At the station, which was transferred from the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI) to the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, milking of brood fish was carried out for the production of baby carp fish.

The eggs, whose preparations were completed the day before, were taken from the broodstock fish taken into the mini pools in the hatchery section of the Production Station, and were obtained by Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Mehmet Nuri Kökçüoğlu, who carried out the milking. Kökçüoğlu stated that their goal in the new production season is to produce 10 million baby carp fish. Stating that fry fish are produced in different aquaculture production stations throughout Turkey, Kökçüoğlu said that they released and distributed the 10 million baby carp fish they obtained last year to the lakes and ponds in Adana and surrounding provinces. He stated that this year they aim to release 10 million baby carp fish into inland waters and ensure sustainability in the aquaculture industry.

Production Process and Distribution

The station has a total of 19 fry and parent fish ponds of different sizes, 9 of which are concrete and 10 are soil. In the station, which also has 32 concrete transport pools, fish eggs are milked by technical personnel and then undergo the fertilization process. Larvae fish begin to emerge from fertilized eggs 72 hours later. After the hatched larvae fish are carefully cared for, they are fed in mini pools and then taken to the earthen pools inside the station to grow. After the fish reach a size of 5-6 centimeters, they are sent to the surrounding provinces and released into the lakes and ponds there.

Distribution Areas and Last Year’s Achievements

Approximately 10 million carp fish produced last year at the Adana Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry Fisheries Production Station were sent to Adana and other provinces such as Konya, Kahramanmaraş, Mersin, Nevşehir, Kayseri, Osmaniye, Kırşehir, Hatay, Aksaray, Karaman and Niğde. were released into lakes and ponds in these provinces.
