An information meeting titled “Risks of the Border Carbon Regulatory Mechanism and the Importance of Verification” was held in cooperation with Gaziantep Chamber of Industry (GSO) and TÜV SÜD.

GSO Board Member and GSO Vocational Training Center Chairman of the Board Ali Can Koçak, TÜV SÜD Sales Manager attended the meeting where information was shared on subjects such as Border Carbon Regulation Mechanism Risks and the Importance of Verification, ISO 14064 Greenhouse Gas Calculation and Verification Management System and EU Green Deal Compliance Processes. Serhat Demirci, TÜV SÜD Turkey Sustainability Director Mehmet Kumru, GSO Secretary General Yusuf İzzettin İymen, academicians, representatives of institutions and companies attended.

GSO Board Member Ali Can Koçak, who made the opening speech of the meeting, said: “Border carbon regulation will be implemented in 2026 within the framework of the EU Green Deal criteria. For this reason, the issue of green transformation is of critical importance for the sustainability and competitiveness of our industry and exports. In order for our industry to survive in the future, we need to ensure integration with advanced technology, industry 4.0, digitalization and EU green deal criteria. “As GSO, we are carrying out pioneering and exemplary work in this direction,” he said.

Stating that they are carrying out project-based studies by highlighting digital and green transformation within the scope of the industrial transformation move they started in 2019, Ali Can Koçak said, “Within the framework of concrete steps, GSO-MEM calculates and reports carbon footprint measurements, which are the priority needs of our companies, in the most accurate way, at international standards.” and we determine road maps. “As of today, the number of companies to which we offer a green road map by calculating their carbon footprint has reached 55,” he said.

Stating that GSO was chosen as a solution partner in green transformation mentoring, Koçak said, “We support the green transformation services our companies receive in our center, which is the only one in our region and one of the 25 solution partners throughout Turkey. Our businesses can receive green transformation mentoring services from GSO-MEM for two times, and 190 thousand liras of the services they receive are given as a grant. We invite our companies to realize their transformation processes by taking advantage of these opportunities. “I would like to thank TÜV SÜD and all our guests for this important meeting and cooperation.”

Stating that TÜV SÜD was founded in Munich, Germany in 1866 and that it is 158 years old, TÜV SÜD Sales Manager Serhat Demirci said in his speech: “We have been carrying out TÜV SÜD activities in Turkey since 1987. In the last two years, we have now given importance to our regionalization efforts in Turkey. In this context, we continue to increase our work in Gaziantep. We have made progress in society and business by staying true to our purpose of protecting people, the environment and assets from technology-related risks. TÜV SÜD Türkiye Sustainability Director Mehmet Kumru also made a presentation at the meeting. Under the title of Greenhouse Gas Calculation and Reporting Methods, Mehmet Kumru gave information about the ISO 14064-1 standard, the guidelines and features for calculating and reporting greenhouse gas emissions and removals at the organizational level. Kumru also shared about what the border carbon regulation mechanism requires from companies and in what format.
