The sentence of Ahlam Albashir in the bomb attack case on Istiklal Street has been announced! ‘I will not defend myself’

A decision was made in the case of 37 defendants, including Ahlam Albashir, who left the bomb device in the terrorist bomb attack on Beyoğlu Istiklal Street in Istanbul on November 13, 2022, in which 6 people died and 99 people were injured.

Some of the detained defendants, including Ahlam Albashir, came to the courtroom and some attended the hearing at the Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBIS). The defendant’s lawyers were also present at the hearing.

“I ACCEPT THE PUNISHMENT THAT WILL BE GIVEN TO ME”

The defendant Ahlam Albashir, whose last words were asked at the hearing, said: “I will not defend myself, I accept any sentence you give me. I accept the punishment to be given for the explosion and the deaths. Ammar Jarkes does not know anything, he knew that my family was dead. Ahmad Haj Hasan’s “I stayed at his house for three days, we met at the workshop where I worked. He helped me because I was a woman and he knew I had no one. I only saw Ferhat and Fatma at home. I want to talk to Mr. President alone.”

Defendant Fatma Berkel said, “I didn’t know why they came to us. She said, ‘We came here to live, if we can’t hold on, we will go out.’ This conversation was just between us. I have no connection with the organization. I demand my acquittal.” The other defendants also denied the accusations and requested their acquittal.

DECISION HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED

The court sentenced the defendant Ahlam Albashir to a total of 7 aggravated life imprisonment for the crimes of “disrupting the unity and territorial integrity of the state” and “deliberate murder by premeditated bombing” against 6 people, including a child. Defendant Albashir was sentenced to a total of 1,782 years of imprisonment, including 18 years, for “attempted deliberate murder” against 99 people, and a total of 1,794 years of imprisonment, including 12 years of imprisonment and a judicial fine of 22 thousand liras, for “possession of dangerous substances without permission.” was struck. Although a lawsuit was filed against Albashir for the crime of “being a member of an armed terrorist organization”, it was decided that there was no need for a separate verdict on the grounds that this crime was included in the crime of “disrupting the unity and integrity of the State”.

TOTAL THOUSAND 35 YEARS OF PRISON SENTENCE FOR 2 DEFENDANTS

Defendants Fatma Berkel and Ferhat Habeş were sentenced to 18 years in prison for a total of 126 years each for the crimes of “aiding the unity and territorial integrity of the state” and “aiding deliberate murder by premeditated bombing” against 6 people. Defendants Berkel and Habeş were sentenced to a total of 891 years in prison each for the crime of “aiding a premeditated attempted murder” against 99 people, and 18 years in prison each for the crime of “providing weapons”. It was decided that there was no need to convict these defendants for membership in the organization.

4 YEARS IN PRISON FOR 4 DEFENDANTS

He sentenced the defendants Bakar Carkes, Hadir Carkes, Hatice El Kurdi and Salih Carkes to 4 years in prison for the crime of “favoring the criminal”. An acquittal decision was given for these defendants on the charges of “disrupting the unity and territorial integrity of the state”, “intentional murder” and “membership of an organisation”.

6 YEARS IN PRISON FOR 5 DEFENDANTS EACH

Defendants Hüseyin Güneş, Mahmud Elabid, Mahmud El Yusuf, Süleyman Güder, Tareq Alkhatib were sentenced to 6 years in prison and a judicial fine of 30 thousand liras each for the crime of “immigrant smuggling”. These defendants were acquitted of the crimes of “disrupting the unity and territorial integrity of the state”, “intentional murder” and “membership of an organisation”.

3 DEFENDANTS PENALTIES FOR MIGRANT TRAFFICKING

The defendant Hazni Shadow was sentenced to 9 years in prison and a judicial fine of 60 thousand liras for the crime of “immigrant smuggling”. It was decided to acquit Shadow of the crimes of “disturbing the unity and territorial integrity of the state, intentional murder and membership in an organization”. Defendants Ammar Jarkas and Ahmet Carkes were sentenced to 9 years in prison and a judicial fine of 60 thousand liras for the crime of “immigrant smuggling”, 4 years in prison for the crime of “favoring the criminal”, and 4 years in prison for the crime of “destroying, concealing and altering criminal evidence”. He was sentenced to a total of 17 years in prison and a judicial fine of 60 thousand liras each. These defendants were also acquitted of the crimes of “disrupting the unity and territorial integrity of the state, intentional murder, attempted murder”.

ACQUITTED TO 12 DEFENDANTS

A decision was made to acquit all 12 defendants, including minor A.E., of all crimes.

FILES OF 10 DEFENDANTS WHO ARE CAPTURED HAVE BEEN SEPARATED

It was decided to separate the files of the arrested defendants Cemil Bayık, Bilal Elhacmos, Velid Halil, Fehman Hüseyin, Saliha Bişkin, Sabri Ok, Hülya Oran, Ferhat Abdi Şahin, Layika Gültekin, Khalil Manja Hüseyin.

DETENTION OF 6 DEFENDANTS CONTINUES; RELEASE TO 4 DEFENDANTS

The court decided to continue the detention of the defendants Ahlam Albashır, Ahmet Carkes, Ammar Jarkas, Fatma Berkel, Ferhat Habeş and Hazni Shadow. The committee decided to release the defendants Hüseyin Güneş, Ahmad Alhaj Mwas, Ahmad Haj Hasan and Hasan Ali. Defendant Hüseyin Güneş was banned from traveling abroad.

HE FAILED

After the verdict was announced, the detained defendant Fatma Berkel, who was sentenced to 1,35 years in prison, fainted in the courtroom. Berkel came to him a short time later and said, “What did I do, why was I punished? “For this?” he said, pointing to Ahlam Albashir.
