Farmers in Yozgat are worried about productivity

--

The fact that rainfall in Yozgat was below seasonal norms increased the fear of drought. With the increase in air temperatures and lack of rainfall, crops began to turn yellow and dry in some areas of Yerköy district. Farmers, who had a rainless winter, are worried that if there is no rain in May, the wheat will turn yellow and dry before it grows. In Yozgat, where the driest period of recent years has been experienced, farmers in many regions pray for rain.

“PLANTS ARE FACED TO DRY”

Yozgat Bozok University Faculty of Agriculture Lecturer Prof. stated that the effect of drought has begun to be felt seriously in Central Anatolia. Dr. Güngör Yılmaz said that grain products dominate most of the land in Yozgat and its districts. Yılmaz said, “Of course, it did not snow enough this year, it was very little in quantity and only covered the soil surface, and the amount of water it left was not very much. As of April, we started to feel the effects of drought seriously, with both the increase in temperatures and the lack of precipitation. As we see in the field and grain fields, in places where rainfall is insufficient, temperatures are high and there is no irrigation opportunity, plants are almost drying out. After this stage, it is not possible to get products or yield from such fields. But for those who water enough, there is no problem. However, if you do not have water, the producers in Central Anatolia are currently in the grip of drought and it seems that they will either not be able to yield much of their wheat and barley or will be content with very little yield.” he said.
