Konya aspires for high value-added investments in the Marmara Region

Emphasizing in his speech that Konya aspires to strategic investments with high added value in the Marmara region in the new period, Mayor Büyükeğen continued as follows: “The possible Istanbul-centered Marmara Earthquake in our country has the potential to reach a level that will not only cause great loss of life but also threaten the economic security of our country.” owner. As Konya Chamber of Industry, we have always argued that this risk should be distributed, stated that Konya is an alternative industrial city to the Marmara Region, and aspired for large-scale strategic investments, especially those with high added value. Our study titled ‘A New Development Strategy for Konya’, which we conducted with TEPAV, will shed light on this claim. “This work includes not only our advantages and strong muscles, but also the areas we need to improve.”

Konya is an ideal candidate for investments that will shift from Istanbul

Turkish Economic Policy Research Foundation (TEPAV) Director Prof. was the guest of the parliamentary meeting. Dr. Güven Sak also made a presentation titled “Opportunities of Turkey and Konya in the 21st Century” and evaluated the opportunities of the coming period. Underlining that the share of medium and high-skilled sectors in Konya’s exports is above Turkey’s average, Sak stated that Konya is an ideal candidate for investments that will shift from Istanbul. Sak said, “Konya is the 8th province with the most competitive sectors in Turkey, with 219 competitive sectors. It ranks 6th in Turkey with 83 competitive manufacturing sectors. The region has made significant progress over the last 30 years. Additionally, Konya has an export basket with high added value. Machinery sector and motor vehicle exports constitute almost half of Konya’s total exports. Therefore, Konya and the Konya-Ankara region are ideal candidates for investments that will shift from Istanbul,” he said.

Emphasizing in his presentation that Konya and the Central Anatolia Region have the ability to become a new industrial region in the new period, Sak said: “Companies in Istanbul have entered the process of searching for a location. When we look at Ankara along with Konya, the similarities with Istanbul are striking. The fact that Konya has an export basket with high added value shows Konya’s advantage.”
Touching on the green transformation process in his presentation, Sak added that Turkey has no chance of being left out of the process.
