The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry continues its support with the “I have many reasons to live in my village” project, which it launched in 2021 in order to prevent migration from village to city. Citizens in Erzurum also gain significant benefits from the project initiated to increase income sources in rural areas.

In the city, which has 11 percent of Turkey’s pasture land with 1.6 million hectares, farmers who apply for the project and meet the specified conditions are given loans of up to 400 thousand liras, with a grace period for the first year and a fixed payment for the next 84 months. In the city, which draws attention with the presence of nearly 2 million cattle and sheep, 646 people who applied to the project in the last 3 years are returning from the city to the village and contributing to the development of animal husbandry. Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Alpaslan Kenger, said that the ministry attaches importance to animal husbandry and that support will continue within the scope of the project. Stating that farmers were interested in the project, Kenger said, “In the first stage, 63 million 997 thousand 230 lira loans were provided to 462 breeders for 44 thousand 946 animals. The aim here is to raise livestock in rural areas.”fe185c63e4.jpg “To provide interest-free, long-term loans to our citizens who want to do this,” he said. Kenger explained that in the second stage of the project, 40 million 563 thousand 750 lira support was given to 184 farmers and 18 thousand 450 sheep were purchased.

“The return of the project reached 63 thousand animals, a very good figure.”

Stating that there is a return on state supports, Kenger said: “A total of 104 million 560 thousand 980 lira loans were provided. We started the third stage in February, applications are continuing. A total of 347 applications have been received so far and it will continue until April 30. After the loans are disbursed Then, on-site checks of our farmers’ animals are carried out at least once a year. Our farmers have to raise the animals and get productivity. Our field checks continue. The return of the project has reached 63 thousand animals, which is a very good number. Our first priority is to increase animal production. .” Kenger pointed out that the support given to animal husbandry also supports the country’s economy.

Pointing out that the number of workforce and animals has increased with the project, Kenger said: “There is a return from the city to the countryside, and since this creates an area of economic endeavor and employment for people, we receive positive feedback from our breeders in this sense. Our city is very suitable for pasture and small livestock farming.” “We are making a great contribution to the country’s red meat supply with 63 thousand 396 sheep.
