Upon information that a citizen named H. İbrahim Keskin, who was going to his field for gardening in Hakkari, fell into the Katramas Stream, a search and rescue operation was launched in the region.
According to the information received, the incident took place in Karşıyaka District in the morning. 60-year-old H. İbrahim Keskin lost his balance and fell into the stream while crossing the bridge over the Katramas Stream on his way to his garden in Pirodan area. AFAD teams came to the region after being informed of the incident, went down to the river bank with ropes and started a search with the help of sticks. Provincial Police Chief İdris Yılmaz came to the region and received information from the authorities, while health and fire brigade teams were kept ready.
Karşıyaka Neighborhood Headman Vahap Ataman, who participated in the work, said, “Neighborhood residents have repeatedly complained about the bridge, whose iron bars and railings were destroyed. But no precautions were taken. The bridge and stream are very dangerous. While hundreds of families come here for picnics every day, hundreds of students also pass through this bridge. This morning, an old uncle of ours who was going to his garden again fell into the stream from this bridge. Search efforts are currently continuing. The stream, whose flow rate is increasing, takes lives every year. “Please authorities start rehabilitation work along the stream and repair the bridge,” he said.
Eyewitness Mustafa Taş stated that the old man suddenly disappeared while he was doing gardening on the opposite side of the bridge and said, “I ran after him but could not find him. I went back and called his family. They also called the teams. “Search efforts are currently continuing,” he said.
