ANTALYA, (DHA)- 32 people who participated in the disaster volunteer program of MURATPAŞA Municipality, known as MAG, successfully completed the AFAD training and exercise and became members of the GEA Search and Rescue team.

Muratpaşa Municipality’s Muratpaşa Disaster Volunteer (MAG) program, which aims to create a disaster volunteer group in every neighborhood after the twin earthquake disasters that shook Turkey, continues. 420 volunteers were trained within the scope of the program carried out with the GEA Search and Rescue Antalya team, which participated in search and rescue efforts in Iskenderun and Antakya with 297 volunteers after the disaster and rescued 40 earthquake victims from under the rubble.

The training, which explained what first responders should do in the event of a possible natural disaster, continued for 8 weeks. After completing theoretical training such as first response, disaster awareness, disaster anatomy, volunteering, first aid, search and rescue, 63 MAG members participated in a 6-hour search and rescue exercise in AFAD Training and Exercise area. 32 of the MAG members were included in the GEA Search and Rescue team after they reached the level of volunteering in the event of a national disaster.

In addition to the MAG program, Muratpaşa Municipality is also establishing ‘Resilience Centers’ with basic search and rescue materials in 10 different locations in Muratpaşa, with the support of the French civil defense association called Protection Civile Federation, for an earthquake-resistant city.
