Tekirda has a rich history of approximately 6,000 years and has hosted various civilizations throughout history with its fertile lands and strategic location.

This ancient city, known by names such as Bisanthe, Rhaedestus and Rodosto since ancient times, became the center of trade with the establishment of Greek colonies in the 7th century B.C.

It became an important administrative center when the Roman Empire sent governors to the region and later established a Roman Province in Thrace.

During the Ottoman period, when the forces under the command of Suleyman Pasha landed in Gallipoli, it came under Turkish rule and was known as Tekfurda. After the declaration of the Republic, it took the name Tekirda and became an important part of modern Turkey.
