Ardahan Mayor Faruk Demir collected garbage with his hands.

Ardahan Municipality started a spring cleaning campaign with the slogan “Let’s Make Ardahan Beautiful Together”. Mayor Faruk Demir, who collected garbage together with citizens, said, “Everyone has the right to live in a clean environment.”

Mayor Demir, who participated in the spring cleaning held in the National Sovereignty Park, put on his gloves, took a garbage bag and collected garbage in order to raise awareness with the participants of the event. Within the scope of the cleaning works, the National Sovereignty Park was cleaned thoroughly.

Mayor Faruk Demir, in his statement about the awareness event, said, “As of today, we are starting spring cleaning in our city. Apart from our professional workers, we, as managers, will carry out cleaning work in the parks in our city on suitable days. We put ashtrays in front of workplaces to throw cigarette butts, but our citizens still throw them on the ground. We expect the same action here from our fellow countrymen who do not throw the same cigarettes on the ground when they go to Georgia. We can resort to methods such as criminal action regarding environmental pollution. The biggest expense of our municipality is cleaning. Every penny we spend is money taken from our citizens. If we keep our city clean, we can use this money in different places. We have instructed that if there are excess personnel in our units within the institution, we will use them for cleaning work. There will be no back and forth incident, if necessary, 1 person will do the job of 3 people. We focus on cleaning work together with everyone, from the mayor to the bellboy, until Ardahan is sparkling clean. “We ask our citizens to keep our environment clean and throw our garbage into the trash bins,” he said.
