Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan will not attend the working meeting of EU Foreign Ministers to be held in Brussels on 29-30 April. At the Special Summit of Heads of State and Government of the European Union (EU) held in Brussels on 17-18 April 2024, a series of decisions regarding Turkey were taken, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted.

On 1 May 2004, the most comprehensive expansion in the history of the EU was completed with the accession of 10 new member countries: Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Malta and the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus. A program including a working meeting at ministerial level was organized on 29-30 April. An invitation was also sent to Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan. A celebration event will be held at the Bozar Fine Arts Center in Brussels on April 29 to mark the 20th anniversary of the expansion. Türkiye will not participate in this event. Minister Fidan will not be present at the working meeting on April 30, where the ministers of the EU and candidate countries will come together. Thus, Turkey will have taken one of the important steps in implementing the statement in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement: “We will discuss our dialogue with the EU within the framework of reciprocity, according to the speed, level and scope of the EU’s steps towards Turkey in the coming period.” – AYDIN HASAN Ankara
