The number of electric vehicle charging units is increasing in Turkey: There are those who install them in their summer houses and in their cafes.

The number of electric vehicles in Turkey, which was 14 thousand 896 at the beginning of the year, reached 93 thousand 973 as of April 2024.

As a result of the investments made by charging network operators licensed by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority, 3 thousand 81 charging points were in service across Turkey at the beginning of 2023, while as of April 1, this number increased to 17, of which 11 thousand 412 were slow charging and 5 thousand 821 were fast charging. It increased to 1,233.

In addition to charging stations, the number of charging units is also increasing. Many electric vehicle owners install charging units in front of their detached houses or summer houses, and some cafe and restaurant operators install charging units in front of their workplaces for their customers.

Electric vehicle owners in Erzincan meet their charging needs by using units in their private properties as well as common stations.

Fatih Özbir, who lives in Üzümlü district during the summer months, said that he started using an electric vehicle 4 months ago.

Expressing that the electric vehicle is comfortable and economical, Özbir said: “After switching to an electric vehicle, I installed a charging unit in my home. I travel an average of 400-450 kilometers with the charging I do. The cost is very low. I use electricity in my home after 22.00 in the evening. This includes “We also pay attention. Of course, the cost decreases further. I charge my vehicle in approximately 7 hours. After my vehicle is charged, the unit cuts off the power supply.”

Özbir stated that he plans to install a solar energy system on the roof of his house and said, “We have prepared our projects for this. Hopefully, we will have the electricity of our house and vehicle free of charge.” he said.

“Extremely economical for us”

Togg user Alparslan Oğuz, who has a summer house in Yaylabaşı village of the center, stated that the charging station he installed in his house is more economical than outside.

Oğuz said: “I installed a charging unit in my summer house in the village. Many of my friends also installed charging units. Charging my vehicle at home has both economic benefits and convenience. The charging unit I installed is compatible with the electrical system in my home. When I first bought my car, it was 4 or 4 hours old.” “There were charging stations in 5 places. Now, let alone city centers, there are charging units in many districts and even summer houses in villages.”

Orhun Ertem also stated that after buying an electric vehicle for his wife, they installed a vehicle charging unit in their house in Yaylabaşı village of the center.

Stating that they charge their vehicles as if they were charging their phones, Ertem said, “As we spend time in the village, our vehicle is charged within 5 hours. It does not cause any damage to the electricity and installation of the house, in fact, it is extremely economical for us. My wife can easily ride her vehicle for a week.” said.

İlker Taştan, an official of the company that installs electric vehicle charging stations in the city, also stated that the demand for charging stations has increased in parallel with the sales of electric vehicles.

Stating that they have established vehicle charging stations all over Turkey, Taştan said: “We are also installing solar power plants (SPP). Especially in this type of houses, when the charging unit produces its electricity from SPP, they will travel free. The ones installed on the houses “With SPP, citizens can meet the electrical needs of their vehicles as well as their home appliances.”

A cafe in Mersin installed an electric charging unit for its customers

Safiye Nadir, who runs a cafe in Mersin’s Yenişehir district, also took action to help her customers who use electric vehicles charge their vehicles more easily.

After obtaining the necessary permission from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority through the company, Nadir had an electric vehicle charging unit installed in front of the cafe.

Thanks to the charging unit, customers had the opportunity to charge their vehicles while drinking their tea or coffee. Cafe owner Safiye Nadir said that customers saved both time and economy thanks to the charging unit they installed.

Stating that the installation of the unit was completed in a very short time, Nadir stated that citizens who own electric vehicles were also satisfied with the application. Explaining that the charging unit increased the demand for cafes, Nadir said: “With the electric vehicle drivers seeing the unit, we now have customers like fixed subscribers and we serve them. Since we increased the power, we did not have any problems with our electricity. Since there is no fast charging, it was more advantageous because there is a transformer for fast charging.” “Our charging station charges for a longer time, but during that time citizens can sit, drink their tea, coffee and chat. Citizens who come to the station become customers in two ways for us.”

Nadir stated that the cost of the charging system they installed was 30 thousand liras.

Hasan Çelik, who bought Togg, also said that using an electric vehicle is more economical than other vehicles.

Stating that he is a regular customer of the cafe, Çelik said, “We charge our car while sipping our tea or coffee in the cafe. I am very satisfied, I recommend it to everyone. It is an application that should be everywhere in social areas and a good source of income.” said.

Şafak Şahin, one of the customers, also stated that electric vehicles are more advantageous in terms of fuel and maintenance costs.

Stating that they are very pleased to have a charging unit in front of the cafe, Şahin said, “We used to see charging stations mostly in shopping malls, but now we can find them in cafes. We think that as the number of vehicles increases, the stations will be installed in more places.” he said.
