Güral Porselen applied to the ministry on October 26, 2022 to expand the quartz mine located within the borders of Manisa and Kütahya. With this application, the company wanted to expand the mining area, which it had increased to 46.18 hectares over the years, to 694.6 hectares. This corresponds to 977 football fields.
According to the news in Cumhuriyet, the Ministry’s Inspection and Evaluation Commission (IDK) held a meeting on November 27, 2023 for the company that wants to increase the mining area by 15 times. With the final decision made after the meeting, the company’s EIA file was opened to the view of citizens at the ministry and the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change for ten days.
If the project is approved, the company will spend 7 million 800 thousand TL.
Within the project area, there is a flowing stream called Koyulduk Stream, which feeds the Selendi Stream, and Gebeoluk Stream, a branch of the Kunduzlu Stream. In addition, there are three ponds built by the State Hydraulic Works within the project impact area.
