Turkey’s furniture exports quadrupled in 6 years

Hüseyin Taklacı, Chairman of the Turkish Woodworking Federation, who attended the opening of the “Furniture Fashion Show” fair organized by a shopping mall in Kayseri, said that 147 professional chambers and around 100 thousand tradesmen are members of the Federation and that they contribute to the country’s economy with exports.

Talking about the problems in the sector, Taklacı stated that they need R&D and design centers for the development of furniture, and that furniture manufacturers will be ahead in exports with their own styles.

Pointing out that 93 percent of the raw materials in the furniture industry are met from the country’s resources, Taklacı said:

“It is a sector with 7 percent imports. The necessary support should be given to this sector. It is a sector that will remain in our country as it is a foreign currency inflow when we export. Especially our members, micro enterprises and medium-sized enterprises need to be given more support and they need to be expanded. When these are enlarged, they will be in Turkey” “You will see that Anatolian furniture makers are making value-added products.”

Taklacı added that China is the world’s leader in furniture exports, while Turkey ranks 9th.
