Incentive for drug control against brown skunk in 10 districts of Trabzon

Meetings will be held in 10 districts of Trabzon by the Trabzon Commodity Exchange (TTB) in order to encourage producers to combat the brown skunk, which causes great damage to agricultural products, especially hazelnuts.

Within the scope of the Hazelnut Productivity and Quality Increasing Project that TTB has been carrying out for 20 years, information and incentive meetings will be held this year to combat hazelnut diseases and pests, with the brown skunk at the forefront.

The meetings, which will be held in rural areas of 10 districts under the name İMECE-2024, will start on Friday, April 26, in Akçaabat’s Fındıklı District.

In the first meeting to be held at 13.00, Assoc. Prof., a faculty member of Samsun 19 Mayıs University Hemp Research Institute and the well-known name of the fight against brown skunk. Dr. Kibar Ak will inform the producers and explain the drug control.

A raffle will be held and free brown skunk fighting medicine will be distributed to producers participating in the İMECE-2024 meetings, which will be held in cooperation with the Chambers of Agriculture affiliated to the Union of Chambers of Agriculture of Turkey. Battery-powered spraying engines will also be given to the Chambers of Agriculture in the districts by TTB to be used in spraying.

The Black Sea Hazelnut and Products Exporters’ Association (KFMİB) and the Union of Turkish Chambers of Agriculture (TZOB) also provide support to the meetings to be held two days a week (Tuesday and Friday) in 10 districts of Trabzon.

Brown skunk, approximately 12-17 mm in size, causes empty, stained or misshapen fruit in hazelnut orchards. The pest, which spreads rapidly thanks to its high flight capacity, is known as the insect that causes maximum damage to hazelnuts. Pest control with pesticides should be carried out in the second half of May and the beginning of July.
