An Arab diplomat speaking to Israel-based Kan News said that Turkey proposed a plan to Arab countries in the first months of Israel’s attacks, but some Arab countries rejected this plan.
Peace forces would be sent
According to the plan designed by Türkiye, Türkiye and Arab countries would deploy a peacekeeping force in Gaza and the West Bank. An Arab diplomat with knowledge of the subject announced that the plan designed by Turkey was rejected by some Arab countries, including Egypt.
Speaking to Kan News, the Arab diplomat said that Turkey is trying every way to position itself as a central actor in the region against the USA in order to benefit Gaza.
Arab states view Turkey with suspicion
According to the diplomat, who said that Arab states are suspicious of Turkey’s initiatives in the Palestinian field, Turkey is trying to do something by putting itself forward despite Qatar’s failure in negotiations for the hostage agreement.
The Arab diplomat bases his latest claim on Turkey’s frequent meetings with Hamas leaders in recent days, especially with President Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
On April 20, 2024, President Erdoğan received Hamas Leader İsmail Haniyeh at the Dolmabahçe Working Office. During the meeting, which lasted approximately 2 and a half hours, President Erdoğan was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Director of the National Intelligence Organization İbrahim Kalın, Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, Chief Foreign Policy and Security Advisor to the President Ambassador Akif Çağatay Kılıç and Chief Advisor to the President Sefer Turan.
