In Amasya’s Taşova district, the migration of sheep flocks to the plateau started a month early due to temperatures rising above seasonal norms. The colorful journey of the herds was captured from the air with a drone.

The temperature in Amasya reached 30 degrees. Migration to the plateau started early due to temperatures well above seasonal norms. Breeders aim to increase productivity by grazing their animals in high altitude lands throughout the summer.

Recep Taş (44), who is a livestock breeder in Taşova, set out to reach Akdağ Başyurt Plateau with his 500 sheep as the weather got warmer. The journey of the flocks of sheep took 24 hours.

“This year we had to leave 40-45 days early due to the dry weather.”

Recep Taş, who continues the shepherding profession inherited from his grandfather, said, “This year, we had to leave 40-45 days early due to the dry weather. It’s up to you from now on. Our journey will last 24 hours. Is it possible not to have difficulty? He has insomnia and walking problems. “Surely every profession has its difficulties,” he said.

Explaining that it was a tradition inherited from his grandfathers for his sheep to migrate to the plateau in flocks, Taş said, “My father did this job after our grandfathers. After that we do it. Our children will do this job. We have to stay in the plateau until the 15th of October. “After that, we will land here again in the same way,” he said.

“We have been migrating since Central Asia, our origin is Yörük”

Reminding that the origins of the nomadic tradition date back to Central Asia, Besici Şamil Soyal said, “We have been migrating since Central Asia. Our origin is Yoruk. This year, due to the dry weather, we had our animals travel to the plateau a little early. Pasture area on the plateau name. Our people here ultimately do it on agricultural land. But when there is a pasture area, there is spread and air change. The sheep cause pain here, but the cold does not cause pain in the plateau. “Whoever wants to milk, milks and gets his cheese and milk,” he said.

Pointing out that the work they do is disappearing day by day, Soyal said, “Our state needs to urgently support this work. He must do whatever is necessary. In other words, our government pays for earrings, 100 lira per animal per year. But this doesn’t seem enough. “Our livestock farmers have demands such as ‘Our government should give us insurance, salaries, if our livestock production is 100, let’s make it 200-300,'” he said.
