The second action of the CHP president: Changing the lock

--

On the instructions of CHP’s Uşak Mayor Özkan Yalım, the building used by young people for educational purposes and allocated to the ÖNDER Imam Hatip Association was entered without permission and the door locks were changed. Young people protested the situation after Yalım’s instruction and made a statement saying, “It is a blow to the future of young people.”

ALLOCATED FOR 10 YEARS

Mehmet Çakın, who was the Mayor of Uşak between 2019 and 2024, allocated a building to the Önder İmam Hatipliler Association for 10 years in 2021 for the purpose of educating young people. Municipality teams entered the building, which is a home for young people, without permission upon the instructions of CHP’s Özkan Yalım, who was elected Mayor on March 31, and changed the door locks of the building 7 years before the end of the allocation. Young people, their parents, teachers, school principals, non-governmental organizations and union representatives, who did not remain silent about the situation, protested against CHP Mayor Özkan Yalım.

YOUTH PROTESTED

The municipality entered the building allocated to ÖNDER for the education of young people in Uşak without permission and changed the door locks, which was protested with a press release. The municipality was asked to take a step back from this unlawful behavior as soon as possible. Furkan Demirhan, a student of Uşak University Faculty of Architecture, made the press statement in front of ÖNDER Youth Center and Uşak Imam Hatip Association building on behalf of the young people. In the press release held with wide participation, “Do not touch my future”, “Uncle Mayor, neither break hearts nor doors”, “Equal municipality for everyone”, “Respect for the right to education”, “Uncle Mayor, we are also from Uşak”, “Obey the law, protect the future”, Banners saying “The right to education cannot be denied” were carried. In the statement, “A blow to the future of young people!” note was deducted.

THIS IS AN TRAINING HOME!

Demirhan stated that the building was allocated for 10-year use with the protocol signed mutually in 2021, in order to carry out the educational and social activities of the youth of Uşak, the imam-hatip community and the whole public. Demirhan said, “We will provide all kinds of support to the rightful struggle of our young people. In this context, we would like to inform you that we will continue both our legal struggle and our services to our young brothers from Uşak until the end. Frankly, we do not want Turkey to become the old Turkey. Everyone can freely choose the lifestyle they choose. We want it to continue to live. For this reason, we never accept that someone comes and alienates the youth of this country with certain impositions. This is the education center of Uşak youth and it will continue to be so. We want our municipality to take a quick step back from this lawlessness and irregularity. “We invite our youth, parents and educators to support the work here.”

THIS IS CALLED ILLEGALITY

Furkan Demirhan, who made the statement on behalf of the young people, stated that the municipality committed an unlawful act against the home where young people spend time with their friends, engage in social activities and receive education, and said, “Municipal officials entered the ÖNDER building without permission and then changed the door locks. They even intervened in the doors of the historical building with drills.” “The historical fabric was damaged. This mind-blowing incident took place on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at a time when no one was in the association; the authorities committed the crime of violating private space, privacy and home. They usurped the rights of me and my friends who were studying here and participating in social and cultural activities.” said.
