Waste of Water in Agricultural Areas in Aksaray Draws Reactions

(AKSARAY) – Aksaray Amateur Sport Auto Fisherman and Nature Conservation Association President Caner Yiğit reacted to the uncontrolled flow of water used to irrigate the fields in Laleli District. Yiğit said, “As you can see right now, we are somewhere in Lale Bağı and water is being wasted brutally from everywhere and there is no control of this. In order to solve this problem, the municipality and the state need to take precautions and switch to a closed system irrigation system.”

Water used for fields in Aksaray Laleli District has been flowing uncontrollably for 3 days, which drew reaction. While everywhere in the neighborhood is covered in water and mud, residents are waiting for help. Aksaray Amateur Sport Auto Fisherman and Nature Conservation Association President Caner Yiğit emphasized that it is wrong to use water unconsciously in this way.

“OUR PEOPLE ARE WASTING OUR WATER”

Pointing out that there is a drought problem in Turkey and many parts of the world, Yiğit said:

“With the lack of rain and snow, there is a terrible decrease in our underground water and above ground water. Our current cereals, barley and wheat, are irrigated. Their irrigation comes from the Mamasın Dam in Aksaray. Drinking water is also provided from the Mamasın Dam. In our current irrigation system, our municipality sends our water to our farmers through certain channels, and our farmers in these channels use them to irrigate their crops. However, since there is some weakness in self-control in the current irrigation system, our people use our water brutally and waste it because they are unconscious.

In order to solve this problem, the municipality and the state need to take precautions and switch to a closed system irrigation system. This has already been talked about for years. As you can see right now, we are somewhere in the Lale Vineyard and water is being wasted brutally from everywhere and there is no control over this. For example, we are currently working to increase the fish population in the Mamasın Dam in Aksaray. Related to this, carp fish are currently in the spawning period and they go to the shore to spawn. Since they currently use water wastefully, the eggs remain on the sidelines, preventing them from multiplying. “In this system, we need to increase our self-control, raise the awareness of our farmers and prevent water use and waste.”
