101 people lost their lives in the bomb attack carried out by the terrorist organization DAESH in front of Ankara Train Station on October 10, 2015. The indictment prepared by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office following the investigation into the attack was accepted by the Ankara 4th High Criminal Court on July 13, 2016. As a result of the case, which started to be heard in November 2016, on 3 August 2018, 10 defendants, including Erman Ekici, were convicted 1 time each for the crime of ‘violating the constitutional order’ and 101 times each for the crime of ‘deliberately killing 101 people’. He was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment 102 times each. In addition, it was decided to separate the case file against the defendant Erman Ekinci, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison for ‘leading an organization’, and 16 fugitive defendants.

New development in the ‘Ankara Train Station explosion’ case

The trial of 16 defendants and Erman Ekici continued at Ankara 4th High Criminal Court on charges of ‘crime against humanity’ and ‘intentional murder’. During the hearing, the detained defendants were contacted via video conferencing from the prison they were in; The lawyers of the parties were present in the hall. The plaintiff’s lawyers took the floor at the hearing, which was also attended by some political party and union representatives. Lawyers demanded that the prosecution be expanded and that the documents about public officials who were negligent before the terrorist attack be evaluated by the court.

The public prosecutor presented his opinion on the merits. The prosecutor read the evidence regarding the structure and activities of the terrorist organization DAESH and the contacts of the defendants with the organization in the terrorist attack in front of Ankara Train Station on October 10, 2015. The prosecutor requested that the defendant Erman Ekici be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for a total of 102 times, once for ‘violating the constitutional order’ and 101 times for ‘intentionally killing 101 people’. Regarding the complainants’ opinion that the defendant committed a crime against humanity, the prosecutor stated that this crime should be considered within the scope of the crime of ‘violating the constitutional order’.

The prosecutor, who wanted Ekici to be sentenced to up to 6 thousand 822 years in prison for the crime of “intentionally attempting to kill” 379 people, said that other defendants Abdülmubtalip Demir, Talha Güneş, Metin Akaltın, Yakub Şahin, Hakan Şahin, Halil İbrahim Alçay, Resul Demir, Hacı Ali Durmaz and He also requested aggravated life imprisonment for Hüseyin Tunç on the charge of ‘deliberate murder’. Prosecutor, fugitive defendants İlhami Balı, Savaş Yıldız, Edremit Türe, Deniz Büyükçelebi, Yakup Selağzı, Kasım Dere, Nusret Yılmaz, Mustafa Delibaşlar, Walentina Slobodjanjuk, Muhammet Zana Alkan, Ömer Deniz Dündar, Cebrail Kaya, Ahmet Güneş, Kenan Kutval, Bayram Yıldız and demanded that the files about Hasan Hüseyin Uğur be separated.

Defendant Ekici requested time to prepare his defense. The court board adjourned the hearing to June 26, ruling that the detained defendants continue in their current condition and that the defendants and their lawyers be given time to prepare their defense on the merits.
