Malatya Organized Industrial Zone (OSB) provides employment for more than 20 thousand people with 340 factories. Especially after the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, the labor shortage increased. Factories cannot find workers. Malatya OIZ Chairman Mehmet Akif Baştürk pointed out that their number one problem is not finding workers. Baştürk said, “Our industrialists are experiencing a shortage of skilled and unskilled workers. All our manufacturing businesses are experiencing this problem. There is inefficiency and poor performance due to the need for workers. For this reason, the employee’s loyalty to the company he works for is short-lived. In the past, a person worked at the same workplace until he retired, but now the period a worker works at a workplace does not exceed 1 year. This negatively affects efficiency and quality.” he said.

‘CLOSURES ARE NOT SURPRISES’

Stating that some companies are on the verge of closing due to labor problems, Baştürk said, “On the other hand, when we add the inability to access credit and high interest rates, I believe that the closures will not be a surprise.” said. Underlining that he is against the attitudes displayed towards Syrian and Afghan workers, Malatya OIZ Chairman Mehmet Akif Baştürk said: “If this process continues like this, it will be necessary to open ways to bring workers from abroad, like European countries. This situation also needs to normalize now. Risk bells are ringing for the industry. If this process continues, we may face bigger problems in 2 years.

“There is a need for people looking for work in the industry. Otherwise, disorder, inefficiency and indiscipline will occur. We learned this during this process. It is a good thing that we opened many universities, but it brought the problems we are in now. Unemployment in Malatya is currently zero, because there is no job demand. One of the reasons, although small, is that a significant number of our people were drawn to other areas within the scope of TYP. In Malatya, nearly 10 thousand people are employed in TYPs. These problems exist in the earthquake zone, but we are also meeting with our other provinces, and this problem has become felt there as well. “Due to this process, no one is considering investing in the country.”

‘LET’S TAKE CARE OF MALATYA’

Malatya OIZ Chairman Mehmet Akif Baştürk made a call to citizens looking for jobs throughout Turkey: “I also call out to our citizens who left Malatya due to the earthquake. We want them to come and protect their city as soon as possible. We also ask our government to provide incentives such as rental support, housing support and transportation support for these citizens to return.

“When someone looking for a job comes to Malatya, he has the opportunity to find a job with very good conditions and very good wages. Maybe it is a city that pays above the Turkish average. We really invite everyone who is looking for a job, both white and blue collar, to Malatya. “We have jobs, we need personnel, please come to Malatya, let’s work and produce together.”
