“Strategic Materials in the Defense Industry” conference was held in Trabzon

TRABZON (AA) – A conference titled “Strategic Materials in the Defense Industry” was held by the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Karadeniz Technical University.

The conference held in the department’s amphitheater was attended by Entrepreneur Aluminum Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (GALSİAD) President Celalettin Kırboz, Gebze Technical University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Mustafa Türkmen, SEYKOÇ SİMA Chairman of the Board of Directors and GALSİAD Vice President Murat Çığlı attended as speakers.

Celalettin Kırboz, who is also the General Coordinator of SIMA Aluminum, a member of the SAHA Istanbul Materials and Material Forming Committee, stated in his speech that the SAHA Istanbul defense and aviation cluster is a business cluster active in the field of defense and aviation, and said, “Today, we are the largest cluster in Europe. “We are the largest cluster in Europe with over a thousand members and participants.” said.

Touching on the economic activities of the cluster, Kırboz continued as follows:

“What did this cluster do? With the popular articles and popular declarations you see in the press, left and right, it brought the defense industry from zero to a place where it could export 6 billion dollars. These are the contributions of the companies within this cluster. Of course, there were serious problems we experienced during this period. In order to overcome these problems, this “We felt the need to establish committees. Our committees here are committees based entirely on problem solving.”

Stating that, as GALSİAD, they support these committees like other associations, Kırboz said, “While we were walking on this path, we felt that some of our products that we cannot produce due to certification, for example, what cannot we do now? We cannot make aircraft like an Airbus or a Boeing. It is not because we cannot do this, it is the International Air Transport Association. “We cannot do this because our aircraft are not allowed to fly, it is not a lack of capability, this can be misunderstood.” he said.

Kırboz: “So what did we do?” Asking the question, he said:

“We are making KAAN, which we can use in our own defense industry. While Sikorskys were being built, we also saw ATAK helicopters being made. There are many products like this, we have seen TB2s, TB3s, UAVs, SIHAs being made. In all of these projects, We are here, we are in it. Therefore, we started working here as a country under the name of original projects. We said, ‘Friend, since you are giving us qualifications and certification, we will produce our own products with our own quality standards under the name of original projects, in order to exclude our own planes and our own weapons. ‘We will produce.'”

The conference ended with the participants answering the students’ questions.
