Selçuk BAŞAR/TRABZON,(DHA)- The construction works of the Rail System Line Project in TRABZON were transferred from Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure with the protocol made. While the protocol aims to complete the project in 2028 in the city where Turkey’s longest rail system will be built, Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç said, “I feel the excitement as if I were seeing this project in its completed form.”

With the Presidential Decree, the construction works of the Rail System Line Project, which Trabzon has been dreaming of for years, were transferred from Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure with the protocol made. At the ceremony held in Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality, Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç and Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Infrastructure Investments General Manager Dr. Yalçın Eyigün signed the transfer protocol.

While the protocol aims to complete the project in 2028 in the city where Turkey’s longest rail system will be built, Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç said that he was very excited about the implementation of the Rail System Project. Mayor Genç said, “Today, together with our esteemed general manager, we are signing the start of the urban Rail System Line, which has been on the agenda in Trabzon for a while, which I shared with my fellow citizens, especially during the local election process, and which we committed to be the first project we will tackle as soon as we take office. I wish the protocol we will sign will be auspicious. I explained the urban rail system issue from two aspects. It will further relieve our traffic jam, especially due to construction and commercial life on the coastline. It will eliminate that stress. It will cause us to raise the standard both in terms of transportation speed and transportation comfort. “Putting into service a transportation axis where our people will be more comfortable in terms of traffic, together with a new transportation standard, will be very beneficial to our city,” he said.

‘WE HAVE DONE THE PROMISE WE MADE TO OUR CITY’

Stating that he worked on this project as soon as he took office, Mayor Genç said, “We shared this project during the election period with the motive that having the rail system in the city center of Trabzon will add value to the vision, future advantages and standards of this city. As soon as we took office, together with our Minister of Transport, the son of our city, we held two meetings with the ministry, our bureaucracy, and our esteemed general manager on this issue. With the sensitivity of our esteemed minister on this issue, and as a requirement of our promise to our city, the Ministry of Transport was taken under our structure with the protocol, instructions and decree of our president. We are implementing our project in accordance with the protocol signed between Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality and the Ministry of Transport. From today onwards, hopefully month by month, day by hour, we want to follow this work and bring it to an end this term. Our project is carried out with the aim of serving the area with the highest circulation in our city, where 824 thousand people live in general, especially in Akçaabat, Yomra and Ortahisar, where 500 thousand people live. In other words, it is planned between Akçaabat and Yomra. “However, the initial phase of our project will be a more busy area with the commissioning of our city hospital,” he said.

‘WE WILL FOLLOW THE PROJECT WITH PRECISION’

Noting that they will follow the project carefully, Mayor Genç said, “We will start the phase in the busiest area, Akyazı-Meydan, that is, the 8.7-kilometer area. Immediately afterwards, we will consider the 16-kilometer section of our university, namely the Akyazı-Airport axis, on a Ortahisar scale. Then, we wish to continue our project in the form of our Akçaabat and Yomra connection. If you remember, our esteemed president brought up and shared this project with his fellow citizens during his visit to Trabzon. In a sense, we quickly initiated the next process by prioritizing this project in our city and in order to meet the expectations in the city. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to our esteemed president on behalf of our city and my fellow citizens. But, as I have just stated, I would like to thank our esteemed Minister of Transport, the son of our city, Mr. Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, his esteemed general manager, his esteemed bureaucrats with whom we will sign our protocol, and my esteemed colleagues who worked on this issue. I feel the excitement of seeing this project in its finished form right now. We are the children of this city. This city raised us and the excitement of serving this city is above everything else. “As the Metropolitan Municipality, we will follow the project carefully and bring it to our city,” he said.

IT WILL BE MADE FROM THE GENERAL BUDGET

General Director of Infrastructure Investments of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Dr. Yalçın Eyigün said, “The Rail System contribution application from the general budget to the Metropolitan Municipalities, initiated by our President, has been revolutionary. Good works began to emerge within the framework of the cooperation between the Ministry of Transport and the Metropolitan Municipality. It has a history of two or three years in Trabzon. With the update of the transportation master plan in Trabzon, the need for a rail system emerged. With today’s protocol, we will start the longest rail system work for Trabzon. When we look at both ends, we are talking about 32 kilometers. In fact, when we put it into practice, perhaps the need for this study will become even longer. “So we can say that it will be our ministry’s longest rail system work in a city,” he said.

32 KILOMETERS ON BOTH ENDS

Eyigün made his speech as follows: “Today’s longest rail system work with a single protocol is starting for Trabzon. When we look at both ends, we are talking about 32 kilometers. In fact, when it is put into practice, perhaps this study will show even longer mileage, as required by the study. We can say that it will be the longest rail system work of our Ministry in this city based on the City Rail System Transfer Protocol. There are 61 kilometers of rail system lines under construction in other cities. While signing today, the rapid construction that we have demonstrated in other cities, with the completion of surveys, projects and drillings within 1-1.5 years, and then moving to the construction phase next year, is with the understanding of the city construction site, which does not disturb the public, does not disrupt traffic, supports daily life and supports construction. “We are planning to realize the project,” he concluded.
