With the “Milk for the mother, life for the baby” project, which was launched 5 years ago in Gaziantep for the healthy development of babies in the womb, 5 million 845 thousand 380 liters of milk were delivered to expectant mothers.
According to the statement made by the Metropolitan Municipality, the project initiated to prevent premature birth and infant deaths and to provide the calcium needed by expectant mothers during pregnancy is welcomed.
Within the scope of the project, which was launched on December 16, 2019 with the understanding of social municipalism, after the sterilization and packaging process of the milk purchased from the producer in Gaziantep, 10 teams go to the districts and neighborhoods and deliver it to expectant mothers.
To date, milk has been distributed to 15 thousand 395 pregnant mothers.
Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Abdullah Aksoy, whose views were included in the statement, stated that there is a serious increase in the calcium need of women during pregnancy and said:
“Milk is one of the foods that meet their calcium needs. We send a 12-liter milk parcel to women’s homes every 45 days during their 9-month pregnancy. Our main goal here is to reduce the birth rate of premature children. If they become pregnant, women can apply through our Women-Friendly City mobile application. “We provide this support to pregnant women immediately when they integrate the document from the doctor stating that they are pregnant into the system.”
Ümmügülsüm Aydın, who is 5 months pregnant and lives in the rural Gökçedere District of Nurdağı district, thanked those who provided milk support.
