Reaction from Turkey to one-sided statements about the events of 1915

The Ministry made a written statement about the statements made by the authorities of some countries regarding the events of 1915.

The following was noted in the statement:

We reject one-sided statements made about the events of 1915 in order to please some radical circles. These statements, which distort historical facts, are also against international law. The European Court of Human Rights has clearly noted that the events of 1915 are a matter of legitimate debate.

These prejudiced and biased statements about history not only harm reconciliation efforts between the two communities, but also encourage radical groups prone to commit hate crimes. We call on all parties to support our proposal to establish a Joint Historical Commission and the normalization process initiated with Armenia.
