Eyigün drew attention to the importance of public transportation at the signing ceremony of the Transfer Protocol of the Rail System Line of the “Trabzon Light Rail System Project” held at the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Meeting Hall.
Pointing out that public transportation has become more vital in the last 15-20 years, Eyigün continued his words as follows:
“When we look at the history of the Republic, the application that we can call the rail system contribution to metropolitan municipalities from the general budget, initiated by our President in 2010, was revolutionary. Thus, the relevant metropolitan city received the necessary allowance for the rail system line from the general budget, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Transport and the metropolitan municipality from A to Z. Good works started to appear.”
Giving examples of the works in question, Eyigün said, “As cities grow, the transportation needs required by transportation master plans increase. Trabzon also has a history of 2-3 years. With the updating of transportation main lines, the need for a rail system arose.” he said.
– “IT WILL BE THE LONGEST RAIL SYSTEM WORK BASED ON THE CITY RAIL SYSTEM TRANSFER PROTOCOL”
Drawing attention to the details of the light rail system line, Eyigün said:
“Therefore, a long planning, I can say physically, was required here. In this sense, to date, there are 970 kilometers of rail system operations in 12 provinces in Turkey. Our ministry has carried out 433 kilometers of this. In today’s protocol, the longest rail system work with a single protocol begins for Trabzon “When we look at both ends, we are talking about 32 kilometers. In fact, when we put it into practice, it may be even longer, as per our studies and analysis. So, we can say that it will be the longest rail system study of our ministry based on the urban rail system transfer protocol in a city.”
Stating that the construction phase is planned to start in 2025, Eyigün said, “We think and plan to realize this project by showing an example of urban construction with the rapid construction we have shown in other cities, with an understanding that does not disturb the public, does not disrupt traffic, supports real daily life and carries out the construction.” said.
– “THE PROJECT IS BEGINNING WITH THE AIM OF SERVING THE AREA WHERE CIRCULATION IS THE MOST INTENSIVE”
Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç also gave information about the importance and details of the Trabzon Light Rail Project and stated that they would like to follow this work month, day and hour from today and conclude this period.
Giving technical information about the light rail system line to be built, Genç said:
“The project is being started with the aim of serving the area with the highest circulation in our city, where 824 thousand people live in general, especially Akçaabat, Yomra and Ortahisar, where 500 thousand people live. In other words, the area between Akçaabat and Yomra is planned, but the initial phase of our project will be more intense with the commissioning of our city hospital.” Hopefully, we will start the phase with the Akyazı-Meydan area, that is, the 8.7-kilometer area. Then, we will consider our university, namely the Akyazı-Airport axis and the 16-kilometer part, in the form of our Ortahisar connection. “We want to continue.”
Reminding that he brought up the project in question during President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Trabzon, Genç said, “In a sense, we quickly started the next process by prioritizing this project in our city and working to meet the expectations in the city. On this occasion, I would like to thank our esteemed President on behalf of our city and on behalf of his fellow citizens. I want to express my gratitude.” he said.
Thanking Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu and those who contributed to the project, Genç added that, as the Metropolitan Municipality, they will follow the project and bring it to the city.
After the speeches, Genç and Eyigün signed the Transfer Protocol of the Rail System Line.
