Mobile Beekeepers Continue Migration Preparations in Ordu

--

Mobile beekeepers in Ordu continue their preparations for migration to other regions in order to produce better quality honey.

In Ordu, where beekeeping is the most important source of income after hazelnuts, 3,500 producers produce honey in approximately 600 thousand hives.

Beekeepers, who plan to start their journey to the plateau from the first week of May, are repairing the hives and frames on the one hand, and trying to supply the necessary materials for bee care in the plateau, on the other hand.

Akın Çiftçi, President of Ordu Beekeepers Association, told the AA correspondent that beekeeping is common in the city and an average of 20 thousand tons of honey is produced every year.

Stating that Ordu is one of the provinces that produce the most honey in the country, Çiftçi said that 3,500 beekeepers produce approximately 600 thousand hives.

Explaining that Ordu is in second place in terms of the number of hives, the farmer said, “The main reason why Ordu is one of the provinces with the most honey production in Turkey is that we have many mobile beekeepers. We have beekeepers who produce in the Aegean, Mediterranean, Eastern, Southeastern and Central Anatolia Regions.” .” said.

Stating that Ordu beekeepers generally produce flower honey, Çiftçi stated that they also produce pine, chestnut, sunflower and clover honey.

The farmer pointed out that the producers who work hard in beekeeping are preparing for an intense migration these days, and made the following assessment:

“Currently, our beekeepers are feeding their bees in the spring before migration. They prepare their bees for migration by giving cake and syrup. Some of our beekeepers are renewing their hives and frames. Some are trying to make the necessary supplies ready. Approximately 2 thousand migratory beekeepers are preparing for migration. As of May, our beekeepers are new “They will start the season’s production.”

Skunk pest warning

Emphasizing that many beekeepers may migrate earlier due to the skunk pest, which has started to be seen frequently in the region and threatens hazelnuts, Çiftçi said, “Hazelnut producers intensively spray their gardens against skunk pests. These pesticides also negatively affect our beekeepers. Therefore, a significant part of our beekeepers may migrate earlier. ” he said.

Çiftçi stated that wandering beekeepers from Ordu migrate to many regions and engage in beekeeping activities, and said, “Hakkari, Van, Erzurum, Şırnak, Siirt, Muş, Erzincan, Kars, Ağrı, Sivas and Yozgat are among the provinces that our beekeepers visit. Almost 50 provinces of Turkey have Ordu. It is possible to see our beekeepers.” he said.

Producers are hopeful about the season

Ercan Yıldız, a honey producer in Altınordu district, said that he is continuing his migration preparations with 250 hives.

Stating that he will take his hives to Erzurum, Yıldız said, “Spring is going well in Ordu at the moment. Our bees are developing well, but the season in the place we will migrate to is much more important for us. We will stay in the plateaus for 3.5 months. We are hopeful about the season, we wish to have a good season.” said.

Beekeeper Emin Kılıç also stated that they are making the final preparations before the season.

Kılıç, who produces with approximately 600 hives, said, “We will have migrated from Ordu as of the second week of May. We are expecting a very good season. We think that if the seasonal conditions go as we want, we will produce honey with a very high yield and quality.” he said.
