TIGRIS NEWS – In Diyarbakır, failure to demolish buildings damaged by the Kahramanmaraş Earthquake centered on February 6 continues to pose a risk. The damaged 7-storey building in the Şehitlik District of the central Yenişehir district began to become a center for drug and financial addicts because it was not demolished. Nearby residents demanded that the building be demolished.

While the demolition of heavily and moderately damaged buildings due to the February 6 earthquakes continues in Diyarbakır, damaged buildings waiting to be demolished continue to pose a risk. While all the heavily damaged buildings in the central districts of Diyarbakır have been demolished, the demolition of moderately damaged buildings continues.

The 7-storey Dilek apartment building, located in the 55th Street of Yaradanakul Street in the Şehitlik District of the Central Yenişehir District, was evacuated 2 months ago due to moderate damage. First the doors and windows, and then the installations were removed by an unidentified person or persons who haunted the building, which had been awaiting demolition for 2 months. The building, which has been abandoned in recent months, has become a home for drug and substance addicts, causing reactions from the surrounding residents. Residents of the neighborhood, who wanted the building that caught fire twice to be demolished as soon as possible, called on the authorities. Citizens pointed out that the building’s condition posed a great risk to them.
