Submarine excitement in Antalya – Antalya News

Yusuf DEMİR/ANTALYA, (DHA) – The submarine named ‘TCG Çanakkale S-358’ belonging to the Turkish Naval Forces, located on the coast of ANTALYA, was opened to the public as part of the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day events.

The 62-meter-long submarine, which was opened to visitors at the Coast Guard Group Command Campus adjacent to Antalya Port and joined the Turkish Navy in 2004, has 9 officers, 31 petty officers, 2 non-commissioned officers and 3 non-commissioned officers.

The submarine visited was named after the submarines named ‘TCG Çanakkale S-333’, which served in the Turkish Navy between 1950-1972, and ‘TCG Çanakkale S-341’, which served between 1973-1978.

Parents held their children’s hands and came to visit the submarine. Coast Guard Group Command Campus was flooded with hundreds of visitors.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH ARE EXCITED

More children and young people climbed onto the submarine with great excitement and waited in line to tour inside. Visitors were lowered into the submarine in a controlled manner from the steep stairs in a narrow area, and had the opportunity to examine the systems by passing through the narrow and long corridor. Commanders gave information about Turkey’s most equipped submarine, in which photography is not allowed.

OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW WITH PERISCOPE

The submarine named ‘TCG Çanakkale S-358’, which weighs 1285 tons and has a test depth of 500 meters, also has 8 missile tubes. The command center, which is equipped with electronic systems where objects on the surface of the water can be monitored through a periscope and sounds listened to without being seen by the target while under the sea, also created excitement. Visitors also had the opportunity to satisfy their curiosity by watching objects on the sea surface through the periscope.
