Re-Welfare Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan said about the rhetoric that “they made the AKP lose in the local elections”: “We did not lose, in fact, in some places, the MHP made the AK Party lose.”

Fatih Erbakan, Chairman of the Re-Welfare Party, attended the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day reception held at the Turkish Grand National Assembly and answered the questions of journalists. Replying to the allegations that the Re-Welfare Party’s nomination of candidates in the local elections was an attempt to make the AKP lose, Erbakan said, “We did not make them lose,” and said, “I specifically looked at that too. The difference in points is much higher than our votes, and in some places, MHP lost to the AK Party. “In Yozgat, Adıyaman, Kilis, but we did not have such an impact anywhere,” he said.

“WE ARE NOT IN THE PEOPLE’S ALLIANCE”

Answering the question, “Would the situation have changed if you had not nominated a candidate in Istanbul?” Erbakan said, “The situation was not changing, there is a difference of 11 points.” Stating that they did not meet with AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after the election, Erbakan asked: “Are you in the People’s Alliance now?” He spoke on the question as follows:

“I guess we’re not, that’s what they say. We were always on the national line of opinion. We were saying right is right and wrong is wrong. We will continue to do the same, but when that side reached the point of saying ‘Don’t call wrong things wrong, everything is right’, we couldn’t agree.”

SELECTION RESULTS

Stating that the economic crisis was effective in the election results, Erbakan said that the society is sensitive about Gaza and that trade with Israel affected the election results. Emphasizing that the steps towards the cancellation of trade agreements with Israel are positive but insufficient, Erbakan stated that Kürecik Base should be closed.

“VOTING RATE IS BELOW OUR EXPECTATIONS”

Evaluating the statements that YRP was one of the winning parties in the local elections and received votes above expectations, Erbakan explained that they received high favor in the field, but received votes below what they expected from the elections:

“The Provincial General Assembly received 6.98 percent, the mayoral vote was 6.2, we exceeded 10 percent in 210 districts, we exceeded 20 percent in 140 districts, we received over 10 percent in 20 provinces and over 3 million votes across Turkey. Of course, this is a serious debut and a huge success. In these elections, we also saw our shortcomings and gained experience. “We think that we will complete our shortcomings and get better results in the next election.”

“NEW CONSTITUTION” DISCUSSIONS

Fatih Erbakan, when asked what stance the Welfare Party would take in the “new Constitution” debates, replied, “We need to see what they want to do, after seeing it, we will evaluate it with our authorized boards and lawyers and take an attitude accordingly.”

Stating that he met with CHP Chairman Özgür Özel for the holiday, Erbakan said, “We will still see each other anyway.”
