Breeders should be protected! – GENERAL – Erzurum Pusula Newspaper

As Eid al-Adha approaches, those who want to buy sacrificial animals will be greeted by increased prices this year as well. The increase in input costs along with the economic developments in recent years has also affected the livestock sector. Erzurum, where agriculture and animal husbandry are the main sources of income, also received its share from high inflation. In addition to the increase in input costs such as electricity, water, diesel fuel and feed, the decrease in the number of animals due to the slaughter of female animals by breeders also increased prices.

This year, there was a hundred percent increase in sacrificial animal prices in Erzurum compared to last year. Small cattle prices will be at least 10 thousand TL, and cattle prices will be at least 60 thousand TL in the markets. Last year, small cattle prices in the city started from at least 5 thousand TL, and cattle prices started from at least 30 thousand TL.

Female animals should not be slaughtered

Erzurum Yakutiye Chamber of Agriculture President İslam Yıldırım said that the decrease in livestock availability affects prices, and this is especially due to breeders selling or slaughtering their female animals. Mayor Yıldırım said, “Animal existence is decreasing in Erzurum, as in all of Turkey. There is a decrease of around 10 percent this year. Some breeders have also withdrawn from the industry completely. I am extremely against the slaughter of female animals, especially those with breeding value, both as the President of the Chamber of Agriculture and as a livestock breeder. Instead of importing meat from abroad, we should produce policies that will increase the number of our own animals. We must produce supports that will protect breeding female animals. “We should support the breeders with feed support and veterinary support,” he said. 77d4464391.jpg

Stating that input costs also cause price increases, Yıldırım said, “As with everything else, the increases in input costs also affected animal prices. Costs such as feed, diesel, electricity and water have increased 3-4 times in recent years. There is already an increase of approximately 100 percent in sacrificial animal prices. “It may change in the last days,” he said.
