Mayor İsmail Hakkı Esen, who started his second term by receiving his certificate of election on April 5, handed over the seat to his junior counterparts 18 days later. Mayor Esen entrusted his seat to the children, whom he placed at the center of his projects, on the occasion of April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day.
April 23 came, all seats were transferred to the real owners of the future. This time, the 3rd and 4th grade students of Cumhuriyet Primary School sat in the Çankırı Mayor’s seat on the holiday gifted to children by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Founder of the Republic of Turkey. Livanur Gökdemir, İsmail Kaçmaz and Gamze Akdoğan took turns sharing the Presidential seat on April 23.
The first instructions of the child presidents were to eliminate the deficiencies of the schools. The junior presidents also instructed that all school students be taken to the Underground Salt City. The instructions were noted down by the Private Secretary’s Office personnel and forwarded to the necessary directorates.
In his conversation about the historical and cultural characteristics of Çankırı, Esen consulted with the 23 April Presidents about the projects that children want to see in Çankırı. The visit, which started with the presentation of flowers, ended with gifts given to the children in memory of the day.
