Sabancı Holding established a technology base in the heart of Europe. The holding, which crossed an important threshold in innovation by establishing the Sabancı Technology Center in Munich, invested 33.3 billion TL in 9 months. Focusing on 3 new areas, Sabancı also welcomes new acquisitions.
Sabancı Holding, which has operations in 14 different countries around the world, has added a new one to its innovation investments that will make a significant contribution to its vision of “Sabancı of the World” and “uniting Turkey and the world”. Sabancı Technology Center, located within the Technical University of Munich (TUM) campus in Munich, Germany, opened its doors.
The target of the center, which will host Çimsa and Kordsa, two of the group companies; Opening Turkey to the world will mean bringing the world’s technologies to Turkey. It is also among the goals for Sabancı Technology Center to become one of Europe’s iconic platforms in the field of university-industry cooperation.
Joint R&D studies and bright ideas to be carried out with TUM, one of the best universities in Europe, especially in the fields of engineering, technology and natural sciences, will be turned into products and commercialized. The holding, which became Turkey’s Sabancı with the principle of Hacı Ömer Sabancı, who said, “We will give to these lands what we took from these lands”, is running towards the Sabancı of the World with Sakıp Sabancı’s motto, “We will run without borders.”
Speaking at the opening of Sabancı Technology Center in Munich, Sabancı Holding CEO Cenk Alper underlined that they coded innovation as a company culture, not as an investment item, and said, “Until today, we were called Turkey’s SA’nayir, now we want to be Turkey’s innovator.” We all run together. We embrace whatever innovations are different in the world and help Turkey develop quickly. and we want to contribute to the world achieving these goals. “We will do this with actions, not words,” he said.
First center in Europe
Sabancı Holding CEO Cenk Alper said, “Until today, we had a total of 7 R&D and technology centers within our Construction Materials and Industry Groups, 6 in the country and 1 abroad. “With Sabancı Technology Center, we are increasing this number to 8 and realizing our first center in Europe,” he said. Alper stated that the technology center, which was built for 2.3 million euros, will be a magnet to bring their customers from Europe.
‘Tailor-made’ products will be developed
Stating that the center, which has 8 different laboratories and employees from 6 nationalities, will develop high-tech, ‘tailor-made’ products for the sectors that shape the material revolution in the world, such as advanced building materials, composite technologies, construction reinforcement, Cenk Alper said, “In Çimsa and Kordsa’s factories in Turkey, These products will be offered to the European market by our teams at Sabancı Technology Center. “This model, which will serve our promise of ‘uniting Turkey and the world’, will also be one of the driving forces of Turkey’s value-added export mobilization,” he said.
We will export the R&D in Mersin to Europe
Çimsa CEO Umut Zenar, underlining that while they lead the transformation of the building materials business line from ‘gray to green’, they also focus on high-tech building materials with comprehensive R&D studies, said, “We are taking it to the global arena with the Sabancı Technology Center.
While we will turn the bright ideas that will emerge from the synergy of Formülhane and Sabancı Technology Center, our R&D center in Mersin, into products and commercialize them, we will also present our innovative solutions developed by our R&D teams to the European market via Munich. We made our Flycrete product, which was created with the intense work of our formulary teams and reached a strength of 25 MP in just 3 hours, unlike normal concrete, ready for airport runways and industrial facilities in the region.
“Similarly, we will export our special product groups, especially calcium aluminate cement, which pioneered Çimsa’s transformation from a cement company to a building materials company and served as a bridge in our product diversification, to Europe through this center,” he said.
2 out of every 3 aircraft tires in the world are from Kordsa
Kordsa CEO İbrahim Özgür Yıldırım pointed out the compatibility of the Sabancı Technology Center, which opened its doors in Munich, with Kordsa’s global growth strategy and said: “The first step of this approach, which we define as ‘Innovate Everywhere’ in the Kordsa world, is the Asia Pacific Technical Center, which we opened in Indonesia in the past months.” We threw it with the center. Now, with the Sabancı Technology Center, we are taking another pioneering step to bring our innovation power to Europe.
In addition, Munich, where Sabancı Technology Center is located, is also among the world’s leading centers in space and aviation technologies, which are among the priority industries for us. Today, we are the world’s leading company in the tire reinforcement industry. Two out of every three aircraft tires in the world; As Kordsa, we reinforce one in every three automobile tires.
“While we will carry our leadership in the field of tire reinforcement to the field of advanced materials, we will also strengthen our relationships with our existing and potential customers by being located near the relevant industries.”
