Turkmen made investigations

Making a statement about scabies, Sivas Cumhuriyet University Dermatology Department Lecturer Assoc. Dr. Mustafa Tosun stated that the disease increases during the transition months to winter.
Stating that scabies is a parasitic skin disease, Tosun said, “We see it quite frequently in recent years. For the last 4, 5 years, especially recently, we have been seeing patients every day in our outpatient clinic in our daily practice. In fact, we see a high rate of scabies cases in our daily practice, approximately 10 to 20 percent of our patients. Of course, scabies cases have been at their peak in some periods recently. Like other diseases, it can cause epidemics. As we have been saying for about 4, 5 years, this is emerging due to both the effect of the pandemic and the effect of migration. Also, the patients’ compliance with treatment or their lack of attendance or lack of awareness also increases this process. Because it increases especially with contamination and sharing of common personal items. “Especially when patients do not comply with this increase, the epidemic period emerges,” he said.

NIGHT ITCHING A SYMPTOM OF SCABE
Touching on the diagnosis and treatment process of scabies, Assoc. Dr. Mustafa Tosun said, “There is especially itching, that is, an itching that occurs especially at nights. It affects the patient’s life expectancy. In other words, it wakes you up especially at night. Because the parasite lives in our skin. It creates tunnels in our skin and causes a reaction there, causing itching and allergic reactions. At the same time, it affects areas such as between the fingers, wrists, ankles, especially the abdominal area, the genital area in men, and the nipple in women, and causes blisters, especially itchy blisters, which we call popular lesions there. This should be a warning for the patient, especially if there is itching around them, especially if they live in the same house. Again, it increases with heat, especially at night. Again, it increases especially with heat in the bathroom. When itching occurs, our patients should be especially careful about scabies and should definitely consult a health center. We take a swab from the skin with a microscope, it is very simple, it is not a developmental thing, and we make the diagnosis in a period of 5 to 10 minutes. “At the same time, we also perform a skin examination, which is important for clinical symptoms.”

“SCABE IS TRANSMITTED FROM PERSON TO PERSON”
Emphasizing that the most important stage of the disease is treatment, Tosun said, “After making the diagnosis, the most important stage is actually treatment. The real problem is that we actually make the diagnosis, but patient compliance with the treatment affects us and the patient’s treatment. Especially treatment is at the forefront. The diagnosis can be easily made by any dermatologist, dermatologist or family physician in the clinic. What is important is the patient’s compliance with the treatment and acceptance of this situation. Some patients are even able to accept that they have scabies. Scabies is transmitted from person to person, this is especially important, so care needs to be taken regarding shared items and clothing. Personal belongings should not be shared with others. Clothes that are tried on, such as those tried on in shopping malls, must be washed and used at home after being bought again.”
