A concert dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic was held, hosted by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Ankara.
The concert, organized by the “Music Life Around Us” group, which was established to introduce music lovers among diplomatic personnel to Turkish musicians through concerts, was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic by the Ankara Embassy of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Ankara Saranya Hasanthi Urugodawatte Dissanayake, founder of the “Music Life Around Us” group Zeynep Erkan, cellist Yusuf Çelik, many foreign mission representatives and guests attended the concert.
The event, where Çelik performed, started with a moment of silence for those who lost their lives in the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes on February 6 and the reading of the national anthems of the two countries.
Speaking at the event, Dissanayake reminded that 2023 is both the 100th anniversary of the Republic and the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Turkey.
Expressing her great admiration for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk for the rights he gained as a woman, Dissanayake said, “For me, it is very important for what he did, especially for him to accept that the development and progress of a nation is defended by women and that women contribute to this.” she said.
The event ended with a cocktail.
