Tomato and clove festival started in Deregümü village of Isparta. This year, nearly 40 thousand tons of tomatoes and nearly 250 million branches of cloves were produced annually in the village.
The tomato and clove festival started in the Deregümü village of Isparta, with a population of 2,500, which stands out with its tomato and clove production. Isparta Governor Aydın Baruş, AK Party Deputies Osman Zabun, Mehmet Uğur Gökgöz, AK Party Provincial Chairman Serkan Keskin, Deputy Mayor Uğur Büyükçulcu, Isparta Provincial Police Chief Ahmet Cengiz Koçak, non-governmental organization representatives and citizens attended the festival, which started with a cortege march.
The festival continued with the janissary band show and folk dances. Speaking at the festival after the moment of silence and the National Anthem, Isparta Governor Aydın Baruş touched upon the importance of women in agriculture. Stating that the agricultural sector in Isparta is one of the sectors that contributes the most to our country, Baruş said, “Agriculture, on the one hand, provides nutrition for our people, and on the other hand, makes very important contributions to our exports, and has become very valuable to the country’s economy by making a serious contribution to the employment of Turkish people. The sector in which Isparta ranks first in Turkey is fruit growing, apple agriculture, especially in apple exports. We are first in Turkey, and Isparta is Turkey’s first in kidney bean production. “Red beans are cultivated on the lands cultivated in our Senykent plain,” he said.
Referring to the importance of fruit production, Baruş said, “We are in a very important place in cherry and apricot production. Fruit growing is also important in terms of our exports, but the highest yield per decare and unit is greenhouse cultivation, which we call greenhouse agriculture. Isparta, which is aware of this, started greenhouse agriculture years ago, starting from Deregümü Village.” “At the point we have reached today, we have approximately 5,500 decares of land where greenhouse agriculture is done. Nearly 3 thousand decares of it is done in our Deregümü village and Çünür neighborhood, and the majority of it consists of tomato and clove farming,” he said.

“We have an annual production of nearly 40 thousand tons of tomatoes and nearly 250 million branches of cloves.”
Stating that Isparta is in the second position after Antalya in cut flower production today, Governor Baruş said, “Maybe one day we will rise to the first place. Because our climate, the hard work of our people, and the fact that our people, such as our Deregümü villagers, carry out this production without sparing their hard work and sweat, make us valuable in this regard. As Isparta, we produce nearly 40 thousand tons of tomatoes on approximately 3 thousand decares of land. In addition, we have an annual production of nearly 250 million branches in cut flower production and we are proud of this. “Isparta is rapidly progressing towards becoming more productive in the field of fruit and vegetable growing every day,” he said.
After their speeches, plaques were presented to the producers in the village. Tomato and Clove festival will continue with concerts.(UAV)
