Mexican journalist Pamela Cerdeira exposed the irregularities in the Mexico City Government’s food collection and distribution process for earthquake victims affected by the Kahramanmaraş-based earthquakes.

Cerdeira said it has deployed Apple’s AirTag tracking device to track the movements of a pack of toilet paper and a bag of rice donated at the Zócalo collection center in the capital. The collected 30 tons of aid was sent to the hangar of the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) at Santa Lucía Airport, Mexico State.

Apple’s AirTag tracking device is embedded in donated products.

It turned out that the products that journalist Cerdeira followed with Airtag technology were not sent to Turkey, but were sold to a local market by the municipality. The municipality of Mexico City faced a huge backlash as the scandal came to light.
