The minaret of the mosque was damaged by lightning during the Friday prayers in Sivas.
Lightning struck the minaret of the Cicekli Alaca Mosque on Battal Gazi Street, in Cicekli Mahallesi, while the congregation was performing Friday prayers.
With the effect of lightning, the lightning rod on the minaret, the ball, some stone and iron pieces fell on the road.
After the warning, firefighters came to the area and took security measures.
Sebahattin Aktaş, who runs a market in the neighborhood, stated that they were in the mosque for Friday prayers and went out with a loud noise, “It was very violent. The electricity went out inside, too. We went out and saw that the minaret was damaged. Thank goodness no one was injured.” said.
Murat Kelleci said, “We were approaching the mosque and it was raining heavily. We decided to walk fast so as not to get wet. At that time, we heard a loud noise as if a bomb had been dropped. When we looked, we saw that lightning had struck the minaret.” he said.
