In the statement made on the Instagram account of the Maastricht police with the caption “Alone in the big city”, it was stated that a 5-year-old Turkish boy was found wandering alone in the city center.
The Turkish-speaking boy, who did not speak any Dutch, was taken to the police station by the police in a candy store.
The boy, who was served food and ice cream at the police station, chatted with a Turkish-speaking policeman.
Explaining that he came from Turkey, the boy said that his parents were in their country and both were injured in the earthquake on 6 February.
It was reported that the child, who was handed over to social workers, was sent to a shelter.
There was no information on how the 5-year-old boy arrived in the Netherlands. It was stated that the Dutch authorities are investigating this issue.
