İzmir Provincial Police Department Anti-Cyber Crime Branch teams created an imitation website that is close to the real one, and one of the social media platforms ‘5. determined the network that sent a link to the citizens with the promise of ‘distribution of special crypto money for the year’ and seized the crypto money accounts of the citizens for which they received a GSM confirmation code. Cyber police teams took action to catch 64 suspects, including 2 Georgians and 1 Ukrainian citizen, who defrauded many citizens with this method.
48 suspects were detained in simultaneous raids in İzmir-based provinces of Adana, Aksaray, Ağrı, Aydın, Ankara, Antalya, Bursa, Isparta, İstanbul, Hakkari, Kırklareli, Kocaeli, Mersin, Muğla, Niğde and Samsun. A large number of digital materials were seized during the searches made at the addresses.

In the studies on the incident, the fraudsters imitated a famous crypto money site on the phones, and ‘5. It was learned that the crypto money of the citizens who entered the user name and password when the link sent via the message was clicked, and then the crypto money was seized with the GSM approval. It turned out that the money in the crypto accounts seized by the network members was transferred to the accounts of the fraudsters abroad. It was determined that the fraudsters defrauded a large number of citizens about 50 million liras with this method.

On the other hand, as a result of the examination of the digital materials seized in the operation, the suspects set up a fake website to defraud the complainants, took a phone line on others, created fake advertising logos on social media platforms, used the identity, phone and e-mail addresses of many citizens while doing these, and with photographs taken with the money they defrauded. It was also revealed that the contents of the correspondence that they transferred money between them.
The proceedings of the 48 suspects taken into custody at the police station have been completed. While 14 of the suspects caught in 18 different provinces were released after their statements, 34 suspects were referred to the courthouse.
