Search and Rescue Association (AKUT) Giresun team had a video chat with the mother Fatma Tanık and her 3-year-old son Muhammet Tanık, whom they rescued in Adıyaman at the 47th hour of the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake. In the meeting where emotional moments were experienced, the family rescued from the rubble said that the AKUT team were heroes.
In the earthquake that affected 10 provinces in Kahramanmaraş, the AKUT Giresun team, who worked in Adıyaman, managed to pull 12 people, including 3 children, alive from the rubble. The AKUT team, who returned to Giresun after the mission, made a video call with the mother Fatma Tanık and her 3-year-old son Muhammet Tanık, whom they rescued from the wreckage at the 47th hour of the earthquake, at the meeting where they came together to assess the situation.
“You are our hero”
Fatma Tanık, who was rescued from the wreckage with her child, told the AKUT team, “Every child has a superhero, but you were our hero. My son, who remembers that night, asked, “There were men wearing special clothes with lights on their heads, who were they?” “They were our heroes.” I want to visit you as soon as possible and shake your hands,” he said.
The AKUT team, on the other hand, stated that they are happy with their good health.
He described the moment he first reached the wreckage
AKUT volunteer Cefer Kakil, who was the first to reach the mother and her child in the wreckage after about 6 hours of work, said in a statement: “At the time of the earthquake, I didn’t feel anything, just trying to save our duty and a life, but now I was very touched when I saw it on the screen. I couldn’t even recognize it when I saw it, because at that moment it was dust. Honestly, I can’t remember how many hours I worked, but according to your friends, it was about 6 hours of work. When we hear the first sound, my only goal is to get the owner of that voice alive. You are in great responsibility and sensitivity knowing that when I first reached them in the wreckage, all their hopes were yourself. I realized once again how meaningful our mission is to see them healthy and together.”
Every saved life became hope for new lives
Burhan Şükür, Deputy Responsible for the Education Unit of AKUT Giresun, said, “We touched many lives during our time in Adıyaman. We are happy to rescue 12 people, including 3 children, from the wreckage. Today, we met with mother Fatma and her child Muhammet Tanık. Of course, the mother and her child are healthy. We were very happy and emotional moments were experienced. In fact, my hands and feet were empty from exhaustion while pulling the mother and her child out of the wreckage. However, after pulling them out of the wreckage, that tiredness and exhaustion came to an end. It gave us morale and strength to save a new life. It made us feel how right it was.”
