ÇANAKKALE – The Azerbaijan Monument, which was built in Çanakkale in memory of the Azerbaijani soldiers who were martyred in the battles for the freedom of Turkish lands in 1915, was opened on the 108th anniversary of the 18 March Martyrs’ Commemoration and Çanakkale Naval Victory.

The opening ceremony was held on the 108th anniversary of the 18 March Martyrs’ Commemoration and Çanakkale Naval Victory for the monument erected in the memory of the Azerbaijani soldiers who were martyred in the battles for the freedom of Turkish lands in 1915 in the Historical Gallipoli Peninsula Martyrs’ Monument where the Çanakkale Wars took place.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Çanakkale Governor İlhami Aktaş, Gallipoli 2nd Corps Commander Major General Rasim Yaldız, Eceabat District Governor Mustafa Çiftçiler, Çanakkale Deputy Mayor Süleyman Canpolat, Çanakkale Wars Gallipoli Historical Site Head İsmail Kaşdemir, Ankara Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan Dr. Rashad Mammadov, and many guests.

Çanakkale Wars Gallipoli Historical Site Head İsmail Kaşdemir said, “On this meaningful day, the opening of the Azerbaijan Monument made the day more important. Even though Turkey and Azerbaijan are two states, they are actually one nation. As a symbol of this brotherhood, this beautiful monument is located on the territory of Çanakkale. He will greet everyone. From here on Turkish soil, from Çanakkale to Baku, we greet Karabakh, Ganja. We greet the whole Turkish geography. With this monument, the ties between us will become stronger. The Azerbaijan Monument suits here very well. Brothers, if there is a problem in any corner of the homeland 108 years ago, there was a fire in one corner of the country, our brothers from Azerbaijan rushed to Çanakkale to extinguish it. We built this monument to keep their memories alive. I know that President İlhan Aliyev is following him a lot. He is here. We would like to host you. We reserved the place. We want to meet here with thousands of our brothers from Azerbaijan,” he said.

Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Ankara Dr. Reşad Mammadov, on the other hand, said, “The monuments of the French, Canadians, Australians and different states are here. Millions of people visit here every year. As a nation and brother Azerbaijan, there has never been a monument to the soldiers who lost their lives in this war. According to him, our President Under the instructions of İlhan Aliyev, a monument project in Azerbaijani style was made by Azerbaijani architects. There is a picture of two soldiers in the bronze figure on it. There is a picture of the Ottoman and Azerbaijani soldiers from 100 years ago. Turkey’s moral and political support. After the speeches, the Azerbaijan Monument was inaugurated by the members of the protocol. The ceremony ended with a souvenir photo shoot in front of the Monument.
