EDİRNE (AA) – Desserts prepared from pumpkins grown by students at Trakya University were presented to teachers at the “3rd Traditional Teachers’ Day Pumpkin Feast”.
A pumpkin dessert with tahini was prepared by the university’s chefs with pumpkins grown from local seeds in the garden of İsmail Hakkı Tonguç Campus, members of the Out-of-School Learning Community.
Dessert for 1000 people, prepared from 250 kilograms of pumpkin grown, was served to the teachers and students at the feast.
Rector Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu also attended the feast and celebrated the 24th of November Teachers’ Day and tasted the pumpkin dessert.
Community advisor Dr. Faculty Member Hasan Özyıldırım told Anadolu Agency (AA) that they grew zucchini with fellow students for the 24 November Teachers’ Day.
Stating that their aim is for students to take care of their schools more and participate in extracurricular activities, Özyıldırım said, “We want to celebrate Teachers’ Day together here and serve dessert to our guests. For this purpose, we have made it a tradition.” said.
The Head of the Community, Batuhan Balta, a 4th grade student of the Department of Science Education, also stated that they had the pumpkins grown in the backyard of the faculty prepared with the help of the dean’s office and presented to their teachers.
Expressing that they are pleased to offer the pumpkins they grow to their teachers, Balta said, “Our aim is to present the pumpkins grown by us teacher candidates to our teachers and friends every 24 November. I hope this feast will continue with the students who come after us.” he said.
