While 3 workers who went to check the valve in the treatment valve room in a gelatin factory in Gerede district lost their lives due to the gases leaking from the valve, 1 worker is under treatment in the intensive care unit.
At around 22.50, one of the night shift workers at a gelatin factory located in the Gerede Organized Industrial Zone could not go out after entering the area to check the valve in the treatment section of the factory.
They went to see their friends, they couldn’t get out
The other 3 colleagues who noticed the situation could not leave after entering the treatment area one after the other. Other workers at the factory reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Health, police, fire and AFAD teams were sent to the scene. Fire crews pulled the unconscious workers out of the ground.
3 workers died
According to DHA; In the control carried out by the medical teams, it was determined that Mutlu Karataş, Yasin Başyiğit and Emrah Deniz lost their lives. Another poisoned worker, Enes Kayış, was taken to Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Training and Research Hospital for treatment. It was learned that Enes Kayış’s condition was serious and his life was in danger.
Firefighters also got sick
On the other hand, 3 firefighters working in the Gerede Municipality Fire Department, who removed 4 workers from their places, were also affected by the leaking gas, although they entered with oxygen cylinders. Firefighters were taken to Gerede State Hospital and treated. It was learned that the firefighters were not life-threatening.
After the work accident, the production was interrupted in the factory with sirens, and the workers in the shift were sent to their homes.

Providing information about the event, Gerede Mayor Mustafa Allar said, “It is a very sad event. We lost 3 of our citizens. The health condition of 1 of our citizens is still serious. It is a large factory with around 100 employees. One of the personnel working here at around 10:50 pm came in to control the valve in the valve room, which is also called the transfer room, which goes to treatment. When he doesn’t come out, other friends go down to the pool to check one after the other. In an atmosphere of panic, his other friends call 112 for help. There is a well of 1.5, 2 meters in diameter, only in the valve room. There is water around 50-60 centimeters in it. “After the last well controls, the fire brigades took our 3 citizens who died and 1 injured citizen and went outside. The person who was rescued alive is also in danger of life. The reasons for this incident are being investigated.” said.
Good condition of firefighters
Stating that all 3 firefighters were slightly affected by the leaking gas, Allar said, “They were transferred to the scene with oxygen cylinders. I wish them well soon. They made a great sacrifice to get the personnel out by going down to that well. We can’t be proud of them. 3 firefighters are currently under control treatment. Although they are not life-threatening, oxygen support They are being treated in the hospital so that they can breathe comfortably with he said.
