TOBB Turkey Cosmetic and Cleaning Products Industry Council President Ahmet Pura said that in Turkey, an average of 5 million boxes of dermocosmetic sunscreen products are sold annually in pharmacies and 7.5 million boxes of sunscreen products are sold through e-commerce. Pura stated that the average number of sales through chain markets, online retailers and beauty stores is 5 million boxes annually.
Providing information on how to distinguish fake and imitation sunscreen creams from original ones, Pura pointed out the importance of purchasing cosmetic products from pharmacies, reliable authorized dealers and sales points.
PRODUCT TRACKING SYSTEM RECORD SHOULD BE CHECKED
Explaining that it should be questioned whether the product is registered in the “Product Tracking System”, Pura advised to pay attention to the swelling of the packaging, which is frequently seen in fake and imitation products.
“ATTENTION MUST BE CONSIDERED TO THE PRINTING ORDER AND SYMMETRY OF THE LABEL”
Stating that sunscreen creams can have different packages, inner and outer, Pura said:
“Due to the irregular printing that is frequently encountered in the inner packaging labels of fake and imitation products, attention should be paid to the printing order and symmetry of the labels. Company-specific fonts are used in the original product labels and packages, and it should be checked whether these fonts and fonts are included in the purchased products.”
Pointing out the importance of checking the production and expiration date of the product, Pura said that it is necessary to ensure that the expiration date of the product does not exceed 3 years.

Pura stated that it is a method to understand whether the colors of the products are original or not and made the following evaluations:
“Fakes and imitations of original products produced without color are often found on the market with the color of the product changed, and color controls of the purchased products should be carried out.
“In order to distinguish original products from fake and imitation products, there is a ball inside the product, and the product you want to purchase should be shaken well and the sound of the ball is heard.”
THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING SUNSCREEN
Stating that the importance of sunscreens is increasing as we enter the summer season, Pura stated that the demand for sunscreens is also increasing in the sector.
Pura stated that sun rays consist of “UVA” and “UVB” rays and said that when choosing a sunscreen cream, it should protect against both rays.
Stating that the product should be broad-spectrum and provide protection against infrared rays, Pura said, “Complete protection from the sun cannot be expected in products that do not have these features, and the relevant products do not fulfill the functions of protecting against skin aging, preventing blemishes, and most importantly, protecting against sunburn and the risk of skin cancer in the future.” “They can’t bring it,” he said.
HOW TO CHOOSE SUNSCREEN FOR WHICH SKIN?
Pura stated that there are two types of sunscreens: physical and chemical protective, and explained that physical protective ones are easier to clean from the skin than chemicals.
Stating that people should pay attention to their skin type when choosing sunscreen, Pura said, “Those with oily skin should prefer sunscreens in fluid liquid forms or gel form, and those with dry skin should prefer sunscreens in cream form. Otherwise, those with oily skin will experience increased acne, dry skin.” In those who do, increased dryness may occur.
