HATAY – Quarantine was declared in two neighborhoods of Hatay, Defne and Antakya districts, due to rabies. A letter has not yet been sent to the headmen regarding the issue.

According to information received from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture, cases were seen in Harbiye District of Defne district. The directorate said that two neighborhoods were quarantined and that everyone, especially parents, should be careful.

‘THE IMPORTANT THING IN QUARANTINE IS TO PREVENT THE ENTRY OF ANIMAL’

Hatay Medical Chamber President Sevdar Yılmaz stated that what is known clearly is that there is a case in the Döver District of Hatay’s Harbiye district, and that they have also received information that a few more cases have been seen. Stating that he just became aware of the issue, Yılmaz said, “We are currently investigating. Neighborhoods with stray animals and livestock will be examined. We have no information about which neighborhoods have it, how many people and animals have it, and in what situation, we’ll see. We learned that there will be quarantine in a few neighborhoods. The important thing during quarantine is to prevent animals from entering neighborhoods. Because rabies is not a case that occurs immediately. Hospitals are not full at the moment, a few cases are enough for quarantine. “We will inform the public when our investigation is completed,” he said.

On the other hand, Sümerler, Armutlu and Harbiye headmen’s offices do not yet have information on the subject. Headman of Harbiye İlker Aşkar emphasized that some citizens called him when they heard that the quarantine was declared, that they are currently in the research phase and that they will contact the competent authorities to get information.
