Dilan and Engin Polat couple were on trial with a request for imprisonment from 2 years, 4 months to 8 years for allegedly instigating two armed attacks on social media phenomenon Banu Parlak’s beauty center on October 1, 2023. Dilan Polat, Engin Polat and Sezgin Polat and the complainant Banu Parlak were present at the first hearing of the case held yesterday at the Küçükçekmece 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance.
Nilda Polat, daughter of Dilan-Engin Polat couple, and Kübra Uzun, sister of Engin Polat, attended the hearing as spectators. Dilan Polat, who attended the hearing wearing black trousers and a jacket with a white T-shirt underneath, was observed to have no make-up. Engin Polat’s choice was black, like his wife Dilan Polat. Engin Polat also came to the hearing wearing a black shirt and trousers. Emotional moments were experienced when the Polat couple, who stayed in different sections of the prison, came together in the courtroom after a long time. Dilan Polat started to cry when she came face to face with her husband. The moment they came together, the couple held hands. Dilan Polat kissed Engin Polat’s hand. During the hearing, the Polat couple talked among themselves. Dilan Polat asked where her relatives were. Engin Polat said that first-degree relatives were allowed in. During the hearing, Dilan Polat frequently turned to her daughter, who was sitting right behind her, and said, “I love you very much.” When Dilan Polat wanted to touch her daughter, the judge said that touching was prohibited. Dilan Polat continued to cry throughout the hearing. The judge ordered Dilan Polat to be given a napkin. During the break in the hearing, she hugged her daughter and cried.
‘WE DID NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS’
Dilan Polat, who stated that she had been friends with Banu Parlak for 6 years, said briefly in her defense: “A week before the workplace was shot, she asked me for help and support for her business. We’ve had no problems so far. I don’t even know the people we are being tried for. The Dalton gang even threatened me and my wife. I don’t know why we are in the same file with the people who threaten us. I had no enmity with Banu Parlak. I can’t understand why he targeted me and my family in such a matter. “I do not accept the accusations.”
Engin Polat said, “I did not know Banu Parlak, I was not sincere. I only know him as my wife’s friend. “I had no influence on the shooting incident,” he said.
Banu Parlak said, “Dilan called me at 21.00 that day. They took ‘Sıla’ in. They will take Engin and me too. “Look, don’t do it,” he said. That night my shop was shot. I shared a story about this. I said, ‘My shop was shot, I’m going there.’ My shop was shot again. I don’t think this crime is property damage. Engin says he doesn’t know me, but we have videos. “I will present it to the court,” he said.
At that moment, Dilan Polat turned to her lawyer and said, “I didn’t say anything like that,” and then turned around and whispered, “They are lying.”
Continuing his statement, Parlak said: “A video about Sıla Doğu was published. They thought I posted that video. Then my shop was shot. I am scared. I think Dilan Polat had these made, or rather the Polat family had them made. We were really close friends until 2019. All the events started when I opened a beauty center. After this shooting incident, my shops closed. “I think about my daughter’s safety rather than myself,” he said.
The court decided to continue the detention of 8 defendants, including Dilan Polat, Engin Polat and Sezgin Polat.
