ISTANBUL – In the operation held at Istanbul Airport, 24 kilos of gold in the form of ingots worth 35 million liras, which were intended to be illegally smuggled into Turkey, were seized. It was seen that 6 foreign national passengers tried to bring gold bullion into Turkey by wrapping it around their waist.
Istanbul Police Department Anti-Smuggling Branch teams conducted a risk analysis study for passengers arriving at Istanbul Airport from Dubai on Saturday. As a result of the studies, a body search was made for 6 suspected passengers. During the searches, it was determined that the passengers were trying to smuggle the gold bullion they brought from Dubai into Turkey while strapped to their waists. Police teams seized 24 gold bars with a market value of approximately 35 million liras. The suspects were referred to the courthouse after their statements.
