The 38th International Book Fair in Tunisia is being held this year with the slogan “Solidarity with the Palestinian People”.

More than 109 thousand works were presented to the visitors at the book fair, where solidarity with the Palestinian people came to the fore and 314 publishing houses from 25 countries participated.

Tunisia Library Publishing House Representative Yusuf Ayari, who attended the book fair officially opened on April 18 at the Kram Fair Center in the capital Tunis, spoke to the AA correspondent.

Ayari said, “Participation in the book fair is at a low level. At the fair, which is mostly popular with young people, we could not achieve the desired figures in book sales due to the higher book prices compared to previous years. In the past, we used to read a lot of books to gain even a little knowledge, but the current generation can learn as much as possible by reading as little as possible.” trying to reach.” said.

Stating that book prices are high due to paper and printing costs even though there is a government subsidy on paper, Ayari said that virtual environments are mostly used to access information due to high prices.

Writer and academician Ammar el-Jamai emphasized that Tunisians’ habit of reading books continues and that the culture of reading books is firmly established in Tunisia.

Arguing that bloggers in virtual environments help develop the reading culture, Cemai continued as follows:

“If it weren’t for the articles I published on my social media account, my readers would not be so in demand for my books. Whenever a book of mine is published, it is followed by my readers, regardless of its subject. In other words, the paper culture continues, and readers prefer to read books physically.”

The doors of the 38th Tunisia International Book Fair, which will also host the best book competitions and signing days, will be open to visitors until April 28.
